PADUCAH –A resolution on protecting children from abuse, and another one commending Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Al Mohler on his 20 years of service in that role were passed today by messengers to the 176th Annual Meeting of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
The convention convened at Lone Oak First Baptist Church in Paducah.
The Resolution on the Sexual Abuse of Children was very similar to the one passed by messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention in June.
Committee on Resolutions Chairman Chris Turpin challenged Kentucky Baptists to make a new commitment to child safety in their lives and their churches. He encouraged them to use the resources provided by the KBC through its Safe Church Initiative, found at www.kybaptist.org/safechurch.
The Resolution of Appreciation for R. Albert Mohler Jr. on the Occasion of His Twentieth Anniversary as President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary referenced his close ties to Kentucky Baptists, as well as his dedication to restore the school as “a confessional seminary based on the total truthfulness of God’s Word.”
Messengers also passed a Resolution of Appreciation to the host city for this year’s annual meeting, the churches of West Union Baptist Association, and specifically, Lone Oak First Baptist Church for their hospitality and assistance.
The Lone Oak congregation had 174 volunteers on site assisting KBC staff and others to assure the meeting ran smoothly.
