BENTON—The hottest ticket in western Kentucky is Encounter: Women of Worth, a women’s evangelism conference featuring “The Facts of Life” star Lisa Whelchel and Christian recording artist Natalie Grant.
“We have less than 100 tickets left for this uplifting event,” said Shelly Johns, Kentucky Baptist Convention Women’s and Senior Adults Ministry Consultant.
Whelchel, best known for her portrayal as Blair Warner on the popular 80’s sitcom, is a motivational speaker and author of several books including “Creative Correction,” “The Busy Mom’s Guide” Series, and most recently, “Friendship For Grownups.”
Grant is a five-time Dove Award winner for Female Vocalist of the Year. Her most recent album “Hurricane,” released October 2013, peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard music chart.
Also speaking at the conference is Curtis Woods, KBC Associate Executive Director for Convention Relations. Johns described Woods as a “bold and authentic speaker for God.”
With the theme “Beyond Sight,” Johns said her hope is that women will come away from the conference with a renewed sense of purpose.
“Sometimes we, as women, get stuck because of past sin or feelings of inadequacy when seeking to serve God, but I want women to know He loves us. He wants us to look beyond what we see—and see with His perspective,” Johns said.
“I also pray that women who do not know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord will open their hearts to the only name under heaven by which we are saved,” she added.
E:WOW will be held May 19 at New Harmony Baptist Church located 30 minutes south of Paducah in Benton.
