Messenger Registration

Messengers are individuals elected by cooperating churches that are affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention. They are entitled to vote in all business sessions of the annual meeting. Messengers vote their individual consciences as opposed to being given voting instructions by their church.

The following are the requirements for sending messengers to the Kentucky Baptist Convention as stated in Article III of the KBC Constitution:

"The membership of this Body shall consist of messengers from cooperating affiliated Baptist churches as follows:

  • Two messengers from each church having 100 members or less, which is in friendly cooperation with this Convention: is sympathetic with its purposes and work; and has during the fiscal year preceding been a bona fide contributor to the Convention's work.
  • One additional messenger for each such church shall be allowed for each additional 250 members, or for each $250 contributed to the Cooperative Program during the fiscal year preceding the annual meeting, but no churches may be allowed more than 10 messengers.

Messengers' cards will be sent, upon request, to individual churches who meet the above requirements, from the State Convention office.

Ballots will be issued to each messenger at the time one registers."

Churches requesting messenger cards should call the Kentucky Baptist Convention Executive Office at (502) 489-3374 or (866) 489-3374.

Resolutions

A resolution has traditionally been defined as an expression of opinion or concern, as compared to a motion, which calls for action. A resolution is not used to direct an entity to specific action other than the communication of opinion or concern.

All proposed resolutions shall:

  • be submitted to the Committee on Resolutions for review and consideration as early as June 1 but no later than 30 days prior to the next KBC annual meeting.
  • be typewritten, titled, and dated:
  • be accompanied by a letter or e-mail from a church qualified to send a messenger to the annual meeting of the Kentucky Baptist Convention certifying that the person submitting the resolution is in good standing, and;
  • include complete contact information for both the person submitting it, and his or her church.

No person may submit more than three resolutions per year.

The Committee on Resolutions shall prepare and submit to each annual meeting of the Convention only such resolutions the Committee recommends for adoption. Such resolutions may be based on proposals received by the Convention, except the Convention may, by a simple majority, consider any other resolution properly submitted to the Committee.

A list of the titles of all properly submitted proposed resolutions shall be printed and distributed to messengers at the Convention. The list shall include the name and city of each person properly submitting a resolution, and the disposition of each proper submission.

Individuals who would like to submit a resolution in advance of the annual meeting to be considered by the Committee on Resolutions may send it to:
