The World is Coming to Kentucky! For sixteen days in 2010, Lexington, Kentucky will become the center of attention for horse lovers worldwide. Contestants and spectators from approximately 100 countries will converge on Kentucky to compete and observe the World Equestrian Games, the Olympics of the horse industry. With attendance estimated from 600,000 to 1 million, the opportunities for short-term relation building and evangelism are almost unlimited. Many volunteers are needed to make commitments to share God's love with these visitors during their brief stay in our state. Lexington will be holding a 16-day festival at various sites throughout the city during the Games. Georgetown, Versailles, Paris, and other cities will be celebrating with weekend festivals. Opportunities to use God-given talents and abilities will be available at these cities as well as Lexington. Activities at the Horse Park itself will require even more volunteers. Possible activities for ministry include the following: 1. Coffee House Internet service First Aid Water Face Painting Large Screen TVs with welcome from Pat Day and www.Godrev.com showing 2. Street Evangelism Balloons Mascots Mimes 3. Entertainment Venue Musical Events International performers (Australian, British, etc.) Dance performances (Hungarian, Bolivian, American Line Dancing, etc.) American music (Bluegrass, Jazz, etc.) Local performers Drama Folk story telling Puppets 4. Fall Festival type events Bobbing for apples Pony rides Quilt show Craft exhibitions 5. Old-time photos (western wear, etc) 6. Art exhibits Sand art Murals Caricatures 7. VBS/Backyard Bible Clubs in Hotels Childcare, etc. 8. Evangelism training on how to use the pin must be required. Interested individuals, groups, and churches should submit their names and e-mail addresses to George or Cathy Chinn at gcchinn@owensboro.net or Harvey Thomas at aim@hthomas.net. These will then be entered into a database and they will receive periodic updated information about the Games. Applications will also be made available during the summer of 2009. Mark your calendars for September 25-October 10, 2010 to be in Lexington, Kentucky for the largest sporting event to be held in Kentucky and the first time for the Games to be held in the U.S. You are being given the chance to share the Good News about Jesus with people from all around the world and they are coming to you to hear it.
