When disaster strikes, some of the first to respond to help are Southern Baptist disaster relief volunteers. Kentucky has an active disaster relief program which works in concert with similar programs in other states. Whether the disaster occurs in the state of Kentucky or elsewhere in the nation or the world, Kentucky volunteers may be called out to help.

Kentucky volunteers can staff feeding units designed to deliver thousands of hot meals on short notice, move in with chainsaws to help remove debris, do the dirty work of helping families remove mud from flooded homes and provide many other disaster relief services.

Whether you are a new or returning disaster relief volunteer, you'll find a number of training options available in 2010!

Recertification

Beginning in 2009, all Southern Baptist disaster relief volunteers will need to be recertified, and this process will be required every three years going forward. In order to be eligible for recertification, all volunteers will have a background check and will be given a photo identification badge. It is important that we comply with these changes so we can continue serving others through this important ministry.

Please plan now to attend a regional training event in order to receive your recertification. You will be asked to complete a form for a routine background check, and will be issued your photo identification card. The events will be hosted regionally, but you may choose to attend any of the events.

Registration

Registration is just $40 for new volunteers, and $20 for returning volunteers. Click here to register now.

New volunteers will need to attend Phase 1 training.

Returning volunteers will attend one of five Phase 2 & Recertification course options:

  • Chaplaincy Training (two-day training)
  • Communications
  • Evangelism through Crisis Ministry
  • Mud-out
  • Safe Food Preparation
