LOUISVILLE – Kentucky Baptists’ gifts to missions through the Cooperative Program totaled more than $1.83 million in November.
Total gifts for November were $1,836,925, which was $39,975 short of the monthly workable budget goal of $1,876,900.
Overall giving to CP for the first three months of the fiscal year is $5,092,482, a total of $538,218—or 9.56 percent—below the workable budget goal, according to Lowell Ashby, leader of the Kentucky Baptist Convention Business Services Team.
“Historically, CP gifts are the highest in December and January,” Ashby added. “Our prayer is for increased CP giving in 2012 to support missions and ministries in Kentucky, our nation and around the world.”
Billy Compton, KBC executive associate for Cooperative Program and resources, said he sees Kentucky Baptists becoming inspired by the More for Christ emphasis launched this year.
Kentucky Baptists have embarked upon More for Christ, www.moreforchrist.com, to challenge themselves and fellow Christians to a greater commitment to Christ and the Great Commission.
“It is obvious we face a significant challenge in reaching our budget goals,” Compton said. “However, several churches are beginning to respond to the More for Christ emphasis.
“Hopefully we can look forward to improved Cooperative Program support in the coming months,” Compton continued. “The ministry and missions opportunities are greater than ever.”
One of the ministries supported by the Cooperative Program is the annual evangelism conference.
“Christ in you … the hope of glory” is the theme for the 2012 conference, Feb. 27-28 at Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington. The opening session is at 1 p.m., EST.
Speakers include apologist/author, Josh McDowell; former Muslim and expert on “Generation Next,” David Nasser; founder of Viz-A-Viz Ministries and international director of More to Life, Dennis Pethers; Beeson Divinity School preaching professor, Robert Smith; and the author of “10 Answers for Skeptics,” Alex McFarland.
Leaders from Southern Baptist life also are on the program. Jeff Iorg, president of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary; Larry Wynn, vice president of the evangelism group for the North American Mission Board; Paul Chitwood, executive director of the Kentucky Baptist Convention; and Bill Langley, senior pastor of Severns Valley Baptist Church.
CP gifts make the evangelism conference available at no charge to participants. For complete information on the event, visit www.kybaptist.org/evanglismconference.
