About
Dr. Bill Mackey serves as the executive director of the Kentucky Baptist Convention having joined the Convention staff in 1997 following a successful tenure as director of the Leadership Development and Evangelism Growth Team of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. The move to Kentucky was a homecoming of sorts for Dr. Mackey; he had served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Whitesburg from 1969-1979 prior to his call to denominational service in South Carolina. Under his leadership, First Whitesburg experienced a 200 percent increase in Sunday School enrollment and a 1,090 percent increase in Vacation Bible School enrollment. Three mission churches were founded, and four pastors were called out of First Whitesburg to lead those congregations. More than 500 people were baptized during Dr. Mackey's time in Whitesburg.
He is a graduate of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (D. Min., 1979; B.D., 1967); Furman University (B.A., 1963) and North Greenville College (A.A., 1961).
Kay Mackey is Dr. Mackey's partner in life and ministry. Together they have two grown daughters, Anonda and Beth. The Mackeys are the proud grandparents of five beautiful children.
