April CP Sets Record, Narrows Deficit
Release Date: 05/09/2008

LOUISVILLE – Strong Cooperative Program receipts collected in April set a record for the highest amount received during any April month and helped trim the fiscal year budget deficit for the Kentucky Baptist Convention down to 0.6 percent.

According to Lowell Ashby, Business Services Team leader for the KBC, April CP receipts totaled $2,340,182. Churches have given a total of $15,901,202 through April, which leaves total CP receipts $98,798, or 0.6 percent, behind budget, he said.

“This is the closest we’ve been to being on track with budget yet this fiscal year,” said Billy Compton, executive associate for Cooperative Program and resources. “We are grateful that the deficit margin is narrowing as we approach the final months of the fiscal year.”

Ashby noted that $8,098,798 is needed throughout the remainder of the 2007-2008 fiscal year in order to meet budgeted projections. For that to be achieved, just over $2 million would need to be received in each of the remaining four months.

While giving is slightly behind budget for the current fiscal year, the $15,901,202 received year-to-date is $826,231, or 5.5 percent, above the $15,074,971 received over the same period in the 2006-2007 fiscal year, he said.

“It is the faithful financial support of our mission work from Kentucky Baptist churches that allows us to be 5.5 percent ahead of last year,” said Compton. “These generous investments in the Cooperative Program are at work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.”

The Kentucky Baptist Convention is a cooperative missions and ministry organization made up of more than 2,400 autonomous Baptist churches in Kentucky.
