October—Serving God
1
Good morning! What a great group of smiling faces! Over the next month we will be talking about some other great people. Each Sunday we are going to learn about people who served God. They loved God so much that they spent most of their lives serving Him.

Today’s story is about Samuel. It is found in 1 Samuel 1-3. (Open your Bible to the scripture). Samuel was a young boy when he knew that God had something special for him to do. Samuel’s mother prayed for Samuel to grow big and strong so he could serve God. Samuel did serve God. He loved God and helped the people around him to learn about God.

When Samuel was still a child and not much older than some of you he had the opportunity to tell someone about God. He shared his faith with a grown up! What do you think about that? Would you be scared to tell a grown up about God’s love? Samuel wasn’t scared because he knew that God had given him a special job. God was with Samuel and God is with you! God will give you courage when you need to tell others about His love.

Good morning! Welcome to worship. This morning we will continue our time together talking about people who served God. Today our story is about Zechariah. It is found in Luke chapter 1. (Open your Bible to the scripture). Zechariah loved God. He also loved going to church. He was happy when it was his turn to do a very special job at church. There are so many jobs to do here at our church. Can you name any other jobs that are done at our church? (Give children time to answer. If they need help coming up with ideas help them out with suggestions such as Secretary, Custodian, Sunday School teachers, etc.)

It is great to have people here who are willing to serve. Zechariah was glad to serve too. The day came for him to work at church. He was so happy! I am glad that Zechariah wanted to help at church. Years later Zechariah probably shared his story of serving at church with his son John. John grew up to love God and serve Him too. Many of you will know who John is because there are several verses in the Bible written about him. You may know him as John the Baptist!

I pray that your parents, grandparents or other family members are setting a good example for you by serving in church. You never know, you may follow their example and serve too!

Good morning! Welcome to church for another great Sunday together. Today I have another wonderful story about someone who served God. In fact this person is so special that Jesus told his friends all about her. We can read this story in Luke 21. (Open your Bible to the scripture).

One day Jesus was at church. When it came time for the offering Jesus watched people come forward to put money into the offering plate. The people did not have checkbooks or offering envelopes like we do today. People simply came forward and put their money for offering in a special place. The day Jesus was at church he saw a woman come forward to give her offering. She was very poor. Her husband had died and she did not have much money. She put all the money she had into the offering plate. She knew that God would meet her needs.

There were very wealthy people at church that day. They had lots of money. When it came time for them to give an offering they gave but they did not give an amount that really mattered. Jesus was not very happy with these people. He was happy with the woman. She served God by giving. The story about this woman is still told today because of her giving spirit.

Good morning! During the month of October we have been learning about people who served God. Our story today is about a man named Jeremiah. (Open your Bible to the book of Jeremiah). Jeremiah served God by preaching. It was hard for Jeremiah because people did not always want to listen to him. Jeremiah reminded the people that they were not living the way God wanted them to live. People were not being kind to each other. People were not telling the truth and were dishonest.

People were not trying to live a good life. Jeremiah told the people that God expected them to try to live a good life. The people would not listen to Jeremiah. It made Jeremiah sad. In fact Jeremiah is known as “the weeping prophet”. He would cry sometimes because the people did not love God and live for God. Jeremiah continued to serve God and tell others about God’s love. People today still read what he said. It is found in the Bible. Do you know what the book in the Bible is called that tells us about Jeremiah? (Let the children answer). That’s right, Jeremiah! I am glad Jeremiah didn’t give up serving God. We should not give up either. We can all serve God in small and big ways. Let’s keep on serving!

November—Thanking God
1
Good morning! It’s the first Sunday of a new month! November is such a wonderful month. Does anyone know what holiday we celebrate in November? (Let the children answer.) Yes, we celebrate Thanksgiving in November.

This month we will spend out time together learning stories about people who thanked God. Our first person we want to talk about is David. David had so much to thank God for. He was a king and had lots of power and riches. In Psalm 139 we can read about David giving thanks to God. (Open your Bible to the scripture). David thanked God that he was wonderfully made. David knew he was special. You are special too! Each of you are special. You are created by God to be just the way you are. Your hair color and your eye color are just what God planned for you! David remembered to say thank you to God. We should remember to thank God for making us just the way we are. Let’s thank him right now.

Good morning! It’s time for our thankful talk! As you remember, we are going to be talking this month about people who thanked God. Our story today comes from the New Testament. It is found in Luke 17. (Open your Bible to the scripture).

The story begins with ten men who had a horrible disease. The disease was called leprosy. It was a sickness that affected the skin. People who did not have leprosy were not allowed to go near people who had leprosy. Nobody wanted to get this horrible disease.

One day as Jesus was walking and teaching he met the ten lepers. Jesus loved them and healed them. They were made clean! None of them were sick anymore. Jesus told them to go to church and show the priest. The men left to do what Jesus asked them to do. A little later one man came back to thank Jesus. Jesus was glad he came back. He asked the man if he knew where the other nine men were. Only one man remembered to thank Jesus!

We should hear this story and ask ourselves a question. When was the last time I told Jesus thank you? This is a question for not just children. Grown-ups should also remember to say thank you. Let’s have a thank you prayer right now!

Good morning! Our worship time together is so special. Today we are going to learn about someone who was thankful. This person was very thankful for his four friends. He had some wonderful friends who cared about him. The Bible doesn’t tell us the names of the man or his friends but it does tell us their story. It is found in Mark 2. (Open your Bible to the scripture).

There was a man who was paralyzed. That means he could not walk. Jesus was teaching in a house not far from where the man and his friends lived. When the friends heard that Jesus was coming to their town they knew what they had to do. They wanted their friend to see Jesus. They knew Jesus could heal people. The four friends carried their friend to the house where Jesus was teaching. When they got there they found that many people had the same idea. The house was full of people. In fact, you couldn’t even get into the house because of all the people.

His friends did not give up. They went onto the roof and made a hole through the ceiling. The friends lowered their friend down to Jesus through the opening. Jesus healed the man! He could walk! I am sure the man was very thankful for his friends and for Jesus. Let’s take some time this morning to thank God for our friends and for Jesus.

Good morning. Who can tell me what holiday we are celebrating this Thursday? (That’s correct. We will be celebrating Thanksgiving). What are some things that you are thankful for? (Give the children the opportunity to respond). Wow, you all have so many things to be thankful for. I am glad that you could think of so many things.

I have something very special that I am thankful for. Do you want me to show it to you? Here it is. Yes, it is the Bible. I am so thankful for the Bible. It is such a special book. All month we have been hearing stories about people who were thankful. All these stories came from the Bible.
The Bible is so helpful in telling us how to live. If I want to know about how to love my neighbor I can go to the Bible and find out! If I want to know about giving thanks I can go to the Bible too! Just listen to what Psalm 95:2 says.

“Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.”

That verse means that we should come before God with a thankful heart. We have done just that this morning! You shared what you are thankful for and I think that God is pleased. Let’s remember to thank Him this Thursday. Don’t let the day go by without thanking God for all the wonderful things in your life. If your family forgets to tell God thank you then it is up to you to remind them.

December—Happy Birthday, Jesus!
6

1
Good morning! Happy first day of December! I have a question for you this morning. How many of you like to wait? (Very few children will answer that they like to wait. “No” is the answer you are looking for). Most people don’t like to wait. Today we have so many things in our lives that make us not have to wait. We have microwaves, 24-hour television stations, fast food and so much more. We are not use to waiting very long for much.

Many, many years ago there was a group of people who were waiting. They had been waiting for a long time for something very special. They were waiting for God’s Son to come. They had been taught as children about how wonderful God was and how He would send His Son to earth one day. The people were always wondering when Jesus would come. We know now that Jesus did come. We are waiting right now to celebrate the time when Jesus was born. Do you know what the holiday we are waiting for is called? (Yes, that’s right! Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of Jesus.) How many of you think it is going to be hard to wait for Christmas? Most of us will find it hard to wait. We want to celebrate now! This month we will celebrate the awesome gift God gave us through Jesus. We don’t have to wait like the people thousands of years ago. We know that Jesus came to earth. We will spend this month celebrating the joy of this special season together.

Good morning. Last week we talked about waiting. This week I want to tell you a story about some other people who waited. Their names are Mary and Joseph. I know that many of you have heard their names before. They were waiting for Jesus to be born. They were excited that God had chosen them to be the parents of Jesus.

There was much to do to get ready for Jesus to be born. Today when people are expecting a baby there are baby showers to go to, rooms to be painted, clothes to buy, names to pick out, etc. Mary and Joseph didn’t have a “Baby R Us” to go shopping to but they did have some other things to do. Mary probably had to make baby clothes. Joseph might have begun to make a crib since he was a carpenter.

Shortly before Jesus was born Joseph and Mary found out that they had to make a trip. It was not something that parents who are about to have a baby would look forward to doing. They had to travel to Bethlehem. It was a hard trip for Mary. Riding a donkey was not the most comfortable way to travel! God took care of them. When they arrived in Bethlehem Jesus was born. They did not have to wait any longer. God’s promise had come true. Mary had a baby boy and they named Him Jesus.

Good morning! It sure is getting hard to wait for Christmas. I can imagine for those of you in school it is also getting harder to wait for the Christmas Break to begin. We have been talking about waiting a lot these past few weeks. Today I have another story of some people who had to wait. It is found in the book of Luke. (Open your Bible to the scripture).

Outside of the town of Bethlehem were some shepherds. Do any of you know what a shepherd is? (A shepherd is someone who watches sheep). It was a hard job to do. You had to stay awake at night to make sure that no wild animals came near the sheep. The shepherds were probably waiting for the morning. It was much easier to watch sheep in the daylight. As they were dong their job and waiting they suddenly saw and heard something that they had never experienced in their lives. Do you know what it was? They saw an angel! The angel told them not to be afraid but to go to Bethlehem and see the baby Jesus. What a wonderful invitation. Not only did they not have to wait around anymore but also they didn’t have to wait to see the Savior of the world – Jesus! After they saw Jesus they went around telling everyone they could about him.

Good morning! The waiting is almost over! Only 3 more days until Christmas! What an exciting time. Do you think we can hold on for three more days? (I think we can.)

We probably have a lot to do in the next two days that will help the time past fast. We have cookies to bake, presents to wrap and people to visit. Some of us may even have cards to mail! In these next two days we have something very important to do. It is more important than any of these other things. It involves waiting! Can you believe it!

We must wait for God. God has so much He wants to give us this Christmas. I am not talking about presents such as bikes, Game Boys or Legos. God wants to give us His peace. He wants us to know that during this Christmas season that He loves us. He wants us to know that above everything else that He cares for us. He loves us enough that He sent Jesus to earth as the greatest Christmas present ever.

I want to read you one of the most special verses in the whole Bible. Read John 3:16 Let’s take some time right now and wait. Let’s pray and tell God we are waiting on Him to make this Christmas a special one, a one where we think about God and the greatest gift ever – JESUS!

Good morning! I can’t think of a better place to be this morning than right here with you in worship. Christmas was such a wonderful celebration. We now have something else to celebrate. We are going to celebrate the New Year that is ahead.

It is amazing to think back over this year and see all that has gone on in our lives. You are growing taller and older. Many of you have more teeth while some of you have less! Some of you can read now. Some of you are learning to write your names. Some are learning to ride the bikes you got for Christmas. You are constantly changing and growing.

The world around us is also changing. It will be different from day to day. Sometimes that may be scary. Things are not always the same. Well, there is one thing that is always the same. His name is Jesus. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:8 that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Have your Bible open to the scripture). That is totally awesome. We may change, the world may change but Jesus will never change. That is a promise I will hold onto for the rest of my life. Let’s pray thanking Jesus for always loving us and caring for us.
