The Rev. Wilbur and Alma Collins Scholarship Fund has been established for ministry students attending Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville. The Collins’ recently shared their blessings with Clear Creek through the largest estate gift in the college’s history.
The Collins family came from England to Virginia in the 1600s to establish a new life. Wilbur Collins was born July 23, 1912, in Union County, Ky., and his mother died from pneumonia in 1921, but even in very difficult situations God continued to provide. He graduated high school and college, and then began teaching school along with preaching and married Alma Henry Dec. 22, 1939.
Collins ministered over 75 years as Alma continuously supported him in all aspects of life and traveled with him to his appointments from coaching basketball to sharing the glorious gospel wherever the Lord led. Collins served as a school teacher, principal, superintendent and assistant superintendent of Webster County Schools. He also was pastor of several churches, including Poole, Blackford, Blackwood, Slaughters and Slover. They were married for 67 years when he graduated once again at age 95—this time to his heavenly home on Sept. 18, 2007. Alma went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2014.
Through God’s blessings and the Collins’ desire to bless future ministers of the gospel, the Wilbur and Alma Collins Scholarship was recently established with Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, after her death. The scholarship focuses on Kentucky students from Webster County first, then the surrounding counties of Hopkins, Union, Henderson and Crittenden, with other Kentucky students being assisted after meeting the needs of the first ones mentioned.
The Wilbur and Alma Collins Scholarship is having an immediate impact for freshman Zachary Olvera of Hopkins County, and will bless many more students in years to come. Clear Creek Baptist Bible College is extremely grateful for the desire of Wilbur and Alma Collins to share their family history and blessings from God in this present time which will extend well into the future for ministry students.
