LOUISVILLE—Crossings, the Kentucky Baptist Convention ministry to school-age kids, is reporting a record enrollment of 14,501 in summer camps at its Cedarmore and Jonathan Creek locations.
Crossings President Lance Howerton said 715 students made first-time professions of faith in Christ and another 657 acknowledged calls to ministry.
“I praise the Lord for another fabulous summer of ministry at Crossings and for the sacrificial Cooperative Program giving from KBC churches that helps make such a ministry possible,” said Paul Chitwood, executive director of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. “With ministries like Crossings, Kentucky Baptists are reaching Kentucky and the world for Christ.”
The Crossings campers also gave a mission offering of more than $128,000 that will be split between Baptist Haiti Mission and backpacks for children in southeast Asia.
Crossings, offering a mixture of age-appropriate Bible studies, rigorous outdoor activities and energetic worship services, has proven highly successful in leading students into relationships with Jesus.
“Camp provides an environment where students can get away from the distractions of their day-to-day lives and into an environment where they are immersed in the Gospel,” Howerton said. “Crossings is a unique group camp experience that offers lake toys like blobs, wave-maker, water slides, kayaking, and tubing. Land experiences like laser tag, ziplines, hiking, dodge ball, gaga ball, frisbee golf and much more.
“Once on property there is not an event, recreation experience, meal, or fellowship where students do not hear the Gospel,” he said. “This coupled with great worship make Crossings a unique Gospel-centered camp experience.” (KT)
