Each year, UC’s Music and Multimedia departments produce “Our Gift to You,” a thirty-minute, un-interrupted program, which showcases the talents of students in the Cumberland Singers, the Chorale and Chamber Choir.
Directed by Dr. Jeff Smoak and Dr. David Etter, the groups share traditional and contemporary music to celebrate Christmas and the season of sharing.
Many, but not all, members of these groups are music majors or minors, but membership is open to all UC students. Chamber Singers is an SATB group of 16-18 inpiduals, and membership is based on auditions, in which students must demonstrate not only vocal skills but also the ability to read music. This group performs in the Madrigal Dinner each December as well as in concerts on campus and in local churches.
The Chorale, a larger group, which performs on campus and travels on behalf of the University, performing in many different venues around the country, also requires an audition. Membership in Cumberland Singers, a group that performs on campus, requires only a love of singing.
Alumni, faculty and staff members, friends, students and community members, alike, have made “Our Gift to You” one of their Christmas traditions and look forward to the program each year.
