A commitment to life and to its sanctity is much more than a political issue. It is an issue that affects children, mothers, fathers, families and generations. The 1973 Roe v. Wade decision was handed down 43 years ago, and its results are now a cross-generational catastrophe. Since then, children belonging to at least two generations have been murdered.
Ministries like Speak for the Unborn, which began from a sermon preached at Immanuel Baptist Church in Louisville, work every day to stop the cruel murder of unborn children. Speak for the Unborn stands on the sidewalks of 6th and Market Street throughout the week, begging women to go have an ultrasound, commit to keeping their baby, and to explore options like adoption for their child. This is good and necessary gospel work that speaks a word of life into an atmosphere of death.
Yet, we must continually ask the question: Who will carry on the work? Our culture’s celebration of death and murder is not just a bygone problem of the 1970s and 1980s. The Guttmacher Institute estimates that nearly 2,000 children are aborted in the U.S. on a daily basis. God makes clear in His Word that life is of inestimable value (Genesis 9:6), that the unborn are children (Psalms 139:13), and that true religion includes caring for orphans and visiting them in their distress (James 1:27). Nearly 2,000 unborn children are in life-threatening distress on a daily basis.
As we fight for life, it is not enough to show up on a street corner to tell women there are better options. As we stand for children, it is not enough to call our local and national legislators, encouraging them to pass legislation ending abortion. We must do more. In our fight for life, we must also train the next generation to take up the torch and carry the hope of the gospel and its message of life to the culture.
To that end—training the next generation to stand for life—Crossings is taking students to the Evangelicals for Life Conference. Evangelicals for Life is a conference centered around the March for Life and hosted by our ministry partners, the ERLC and Focus on the Family. We are bringing students to attend the conference, join us in breakout sessions designated for youth, and tour our nation’s Capitol. This trip is designed to train students on how to combat the culture and fight for life.
Seats are limited. If you are interested in joining us or sending your students on this trip, please contact us at 502-491-7000 or email us at events@gocrossings.org. Will you stand for life?
