LOUISVILLE—Charles Frazier, pastor of Zion’s Cause Baptist Church in Benton, was elected by acclamation today as president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention during its annual meeting at Highview Baptist Church in Louisville.

Calling him a “visionary,” Tom James, a former KBC president, said Frazier believes in a “Big Tent” convention that seeks to “involve and encourage all KBC churches; big and small, old and new, rural and urban.”

Serving in pastoral ministry for 25 years, Frazier has led four Kentucky Baptist churches, noted James, pastor of Eastwood Baptist Church in Bowling Green, in nominating Frazier.

Zion Cause was recognized by the North American Mission Board in 2009 as being one of the fastest growing churches in Kentucky and also was one of th9e top 600 fastest growing in the Southern Baptist Convention.

 During his 12-year tenure, the Benton congregation has doubled its support of the Cooperative Program, now contributing 8 percent of its undesignated receipts.

As a former member of the Mission Board, Frazier served as chairman of the budget and finance committee and as vice-chairman of the administrative committee. He recently was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist convention

A graduate of Mid-Continent University, Frazier received master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. (WR)
