Boys and girls, grades 4-6, and their leaders have just completed two mission trips through Mission Adventure for Kentucky Kids (MAKK). Under the banner of Missions in the City, the children served in Louisville and Lexington.

For each MAKK trip, the children arrived on a Thursday. They were introduced to the area where they would serve by prayerwalking. Children see things that many of us miss. One child saw a beer can and thought to pray for the person who had dropped it on the ground. Children see needs that adults look past.

During MAKK the children had Bible study, did crafts, learned music, participated in a special interest track, and had recreation. They also went to local ministries to serve. In Louisville they worked in the clothes closet and cleaned at Baptist Fellowship Center, stocked the pantry and did crafts with adult day care participants at Fern Creek Highview United Ministries. In Lexington the children did cleaning and worked in the garden at the Hope Center, prepared sack lunches at the Lexington Rescue Missions, made cards at Mission Lexington, and did cleaning and baked cookies at the Ronald McDonald House.

The culmination of the MAKK mission trip was when the children took everything they learned and led one-day Bible Schools at nursing homes. Senior adults not only love children, they still enjoy learning the Bible. What a ministry of caring and of witness.

Teenagers are also on mission trips with Kentucky WMU this summer. Four weeks of Kentucky Changers provide opportunities for teens and adults to work together to share Jesus as they work on homes that need repairs. Teens have been trained to share their faith as they work in each community.

Kentucky Acteens Activators will head to Knoxville, Tenn., from July 9-16, where they will lead day camp for children. Then at the end of July, Kentucky Acteens will go on a Journey to the Haven of Rest to work at the facility, help in the Heavenly Treasures Store, and lead Backyard Bible Clubs, and minister in nursing homes.
