Staying the CourseGathering Room

Staying the Course - Dawn Reed
Life in ministry can be both wonderful AND extremely difficult, taking pastors and their wives from mountaintop experiences to low, low valleys. When things are difficult, the enemy tries to steal our hope, kill our joy, and destroy the good work God has been doing.

In Staying the Course, we will draw strength and encouragement from the true story of Elijah, who knew plenty about the ups and downs of following God. We will be reminded that through good times and bad, God is still with us.

Dawn Reed is Kentucky born and raised.  She has been married to her high school sweetheart for 43 years and is the mother of 2 grown children. Dawn has worked as a dental assistant for 17 years and is also a newspaper columnist. Her passions are teaching, reading, and jail ministry. She serves at Fitzpatrick Baptist Church in Prestonsburg where her husband is pastor.
Sloughing Through to the Sparkle and Shine - Marcia Arrastia
As mothers, grandmothers, wives and friends we yearn to see our children, and other young people we are blessed to have in our lives, shine brightly against the backdrop of a very challenging and vastly changing world. It can seem a daunting and frightening and often discouraging and overwhelming task. Yet, however the world seeks to hinder, blur or diminish the light, we are called to carry forth – often. seemingly, merely  “sloughing” along.

The Lord and His Word are faithful, powerful and true and will help lead us and our children on the path to His pure light. Join me as we discuss how to not only simply avoid these challenges, but navigate them in such a manner that our Sovereign God can use them to get us all to the place where our lives, light, and that of our children, can shine the brightest.

Marcia Arrastia has been married to her husband, Armando, for more than 40 years. They have raised three precious daughters who are married to three brave guys who made it through a rigorous interview process. And the best part – they all love the Lord and are actively involved in ministry! She is MomMom to the dashing Judah and delightful Lyla. Marcia has been a stay-at-home mom for almost 30 years serving in various capacities in ministry, writing and speaking, while growing a couple of small businesses with her husband, practicing law, gardening and living and loving life from her little acre in Frankfort, Kentucky. Marcia is a member of Buck Run Baptist Church.
Prioritizing Spiritual Disciplines When You Have A Full Plate - Tessa McGilbra

Spiritual disciplines create order to our time with the Lord, hope that we will grow in Christlikeness, and joy as we learn truths about the unconditional and everlasting love that God has for His people. As ministry wives we juggle busy schedules and lengthy to-do lists, which often presents challenges with intentionally pursuing spiritual growth. Join us for a practical look at how to approach prioritizing the spiritual disciplines in the day-to-day busyness of Christian life.

Tessa McGilbra is the pastor’s wife at New Breed Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

A Heart for Missions - Holly Hart
Holly shares her story of how God used the church to nurture her missional heart. She will share some ways that we, as ministry wives, can be nurturing our own hearts to love the mission of the church and to be living out that mission in our busy lives.

Holly Hart is a pastor’s wife and mom who enjoys serving her church in the youth and women’s ministries. She has been a counselor, social worker, and missionary and is a Missions Associate with Pioneers International. When she’s not working at the KY Dept. of Revenue, she enjoys camping, a good book, and time with her family.
Small Group Bible Study Strategies - Torey Thompson

As ministry wives, we are often called upon to coordinate women’s bible studies and events. In this breakout, Torey will share some practical strategies and tips for doing that in our churches.

Torey Thompson is the wife of Matthew, and mom of Ezekiel, Esther, Ezra, Eve and Enoch. Their family is currently serving in Somerset at Grace Baptist. Torey loves the Lord and has a heart for helping others grow closer to the Lord. She has worked at Southern Seminary and hosted bible studies at church and in her home.
Encouragement for Bivocational Ministry Wives - Sherry Dooley

By sharing the Lord’s call on her life, Sherry will be an incredible encouragement for bivocational pastors wives.

Sherry Dooley is a pastor’s wife, mom and loves working at Madison Southern High School. She is married to William and has been faithfully serving the Lord alongside him since 1994. They have two wonderful daughters and a grand dog.
