“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.” — John 15:16-17 (ESV)
My name is Reuben Watson. I am the director of African American Advancement and Development with Sunrise Children’s Services.
I’ve been a part of the Sunrise family for the past seven months. What is unique about our organization is that it has a foundation of Christ. Although not every job has the same foundation, we are all called to reflect, share and demonstrate the love of Christ to one another and to the world. This mission field has its difficulties and hardships, like any other job, but it demands that we land at the feet of the cross. Please take time to read how this blessing has allowed me to share my faith through my speech, actions and mission.
In my position, I get the opportunity to build bridges within and to our organization. I approach these relationships and speaking engagements through the lens of Christ, always seeking opportunities to show love and display grace.
Words
When speaking to co-workers, I try (not perfectly) to approach conversations with understanding and patience, hoping that it will plant a seed of comfort and confidence within them.
Action
Whether it’s asking a co-worker or pastor how I can pray for them, lending a helping hand to someone — despite it not being my job responsibility — or sharing the truth of peace with a foster family, all areas of my job have become a chance to share my faith.
Mission
My role and responsibility are to spread awareness and create opportunities for others to join us. This may be through volunteering, fostering or donating. However, my ultimate goal is to bring others to Christ. I choose to use all of my responsibilities as tools to spread His love and His truth.
I hope that sharing my experiences will challenge you to reflect the light of Christ through your work!
