At the start of a new year, most people think of resolutions. There are those who will pledge to get on a diet, workout more often, clear out the excess and maybe even learn that musical instrument they’ve always wanted to try. However, two or three weeks into this resolution there is a loss of interest. All of a sudden, what seemed to be a worthwhile goal turns into work. Old habits make their way back into our day-to-day activities — and eventually we lose sight of the goal.
In situations like this, it’s the ‘commitment’ part that is a difficult pill to swallow. The good news is that small changes are the key. Small changes that are consistent can create big change over time.
As we enter a new year, think about the small changes you can make to strengthen your ministry or missions group. Then make the commitment to engage in these changes consistently. Maybe it’s a small schedule change to engage more young people. Maybe it’s changing up resources to ensure that missions training is offered in your church. Maybe your people don’t understand why we give to the missions offerings. Maybe it’s fostering accountability in small groups to encourage missional living.
Whatever you decide to incorporate into your church family, we pray that you will encourage missions urgency. Need additional ideas for incorporating missions education for all ages? WMU can help!
Like you, WMU hopes to see all Kentuckians respond to the gospel. Let this be a year when we embody Acts 1:8 and share the gospel in our “Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
