Louisville—A prayer rally at the State Capitol and a missions block party are among the featured events of the 112th Kentucky WMU Annual Meeting, April 10-11, at Sand Spring Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg.
“All for You” will be the focus of the two-day event which begins on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. and concludes on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The program features Debby Akerman, president, National WMU; Sisterhood Christian Drama Team; and international missionaries from Asia, Europe and Africa. The Mills Sisters will lead music throughout the meeting. Edwina Mills Rowell, Ruth Ann Mills-Moore, and Eleanor Mills Spry, are sister musicians from Campbellsville, Eminence and Murray.
A Prayer Rally in the State Capitol rotunda will be held on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. Bus transportation will be provided by pre-reservation. A brief program and prayer time will take place in the rotunda followed by prayerwalking in the capitol building. A prayerwalking guide will be provided.
Ministry projects and conferences at the church will also be offered on Friday afternoon. Kentucky missionary Robin Reeves will guide participants in completing “salvation dolls.” These dolls have been sent around the world and used in a variety of settings to share Christ with children. Participants will be able to complete a doll as a sample and take home a pattern for making additional dolls.
Two projects on behalf of the Veterans Administration Medical Center will also take place during the meeting. Participants are encouraged to bring items such as coffee, sugar and creamer packets, packaged cookies and crackers, puzzle books, pens and writing pads. Volunteers will sort these items during the Friday afternoon time for ministry projects. Volunteers will also make children’s activity bags for distribution to children who accompany parents to appointments at the Medical Center.
A Kentucky Changers celebration will take place in the Friday evening session. Adult Kentucky Changers are doing several projects in the Lawrenceburg area in the days preceding the annual meeting. Homeowners will be invited to attend the celebration, which includes before and after pictures of the work completed.
The Kentucky Missionary of the Year Award will be presented in the Friday evening session followed by a commissioning service for new Kentucky missionaries. Debby Akerman and Susan Bryant, Kentucky WMU president, will lead a panel discussion with international missionaries to close the service. A reception for the missionaries will follow the evening session.
The Saturday morning session includes a focus on Baptist Campus Ministry at Kentucky State University. Following a closing presentation by the Sisterhood Drama Team, participants are invited to participate in a missions block party on the church grounds. Creative ministry performances, missionary speakers, and a variety of activities will take place during the block party. Kentucky Raceway Ministries will be on hand with a race car and participants are invited to bring toy race cars to donate for children’s activities at the ministry.
An offering for Kentucky WMU ministries to missionaries and Missionary Kids (MKs) will be received in several sessions. Kentucky WMU provides Christmas gifts to Kentucky born international missionaries as well as a fall and spring gift to Kentucky MKs who are attending college in Kentucky. .
A boxed lunch will be available on Friday at noon. Baptist Nursing Fellowship will host a dinner at the church on Friday. Pre-registration is required for meals and preschool child care.
