Elizabethtown & Louisville—Kentucky Baptist churches are once again partnering with WinShape, a Gospel-driven, community-centered, Chick-Fil-A-sponsored day camp. This year, Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown will be hosting a camp July 2-6 and Westport Road Baptist Church in Louisville will host one July 23-27.
Westport Road’s vision for the camp is “to reach campers that might not come to a ‘church’ camp and to provide opportunities to children that might never be able to attend a camp like this without sponsors to get them here,” Jeanne McClure, children’s minister at Westport Road, said.
Last year, around 100 students were able to attend because of sponsorships. This year, they are expecting more sponsors so many children can hear the Gospel for the first time, Tammy Wright, a member of Westport Road and volunteer with WinShape, said.
So far, Westport Road has more than 170 registered and expects around 300 more. Although volunteers come from different ministries all over the community to help, roughly 75 percent of their volunteer force comes from their own congregation.
Severns Valley is partnering with Northside Baptist Church, Valley Creek Baptist Church, Rineyville Baptist Church, Grace Heartland Church and Mission Hope for Kids to welcome a goal of 300 kids for camp this year. They already have 200 kids registered. This is their eighth year as a host church.
“I have never experienced so much fun for kids with the Gospel woven into every single aspect of it,” McClure added.
