Leaders must develop various skills and improve daily to become effective leaders.

This conference will focus on how to develop oneself in key areas vital to leadership, such as understanding who you are, how to relate to others, and how to develop your leadership skills. Self-leadership is the foundation of being a great leader because if we cannot lead ourselves, we cannot lead others.

Speaker: Dan Summerlin

Dr. Dan Summerlin served 40 years in pastoral ministries until 2023 when he retired as pastor from Lone Oak First Baptist Church in Paducah, Ky after nearly 21 years. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and earned both his M.Div. and Th.D. degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Summerlin has served in various key roles in the KBC and the SBC and in 2019 he was awarded the KBC’s Distinguished Cooperative Program Leadership for his support for the Cooperative Program. He is a frequent conference speaker on a variety of topics including preaching, stress and conflict management, productivity, church growth and leadership. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses and is currently an adjunct professor at Clear Creek Baptist College. His goal is to help pastors and laypeople reach their full potential as leaders in the church and for over 18 years he has met monthly with pastors mentoring them in how to become a better pastor.
