For 146 years, Sunrise Children’s Services has been serving abused and abandoned children within the Commonwealth of Kentucky through a broad array of programs designed to meet their most basic needs, while providing therapeutic services to help them heal. Your past support has touched so many young lives – thank you!
But, what happens when these children become young adults and support programs are no longer available? Current statistics paint a gloomy picture:
– Only 3% of children in foster care get post- secondary education
– 70% end up back in negative situations because of not having the support, direction or hope for tomorrow
– The majority of emancipated foster children move within 5 miles of their abusive home
We invite you to join us in developing our groundbreaking, “Extended Arm of Care” program to assist children, ages 15 through 18, in Sunrise Children’s Services foster and residential care programs and help them develop a sustainable path for life.
Core components will include a life assessment, assigned mentor(s) to provide guidance and encouragement, and seminars to teach important life skills like basis finance, effective communication, how to dress for success, and more. Additionally, we are partnering with our community and state colleges, and establishing apprenticeship programs with local businesses, to arm these children with critical skills and knowledge, so they can establish a career path and become productive members of our community.
We are launching this exciting, pilot program this fall. And, we need your help once again to do it!
Through your heartfelt consideration, you will not only demonstrate God’s love – you will make a deep, positive impact at a critical point in time for children who have endured tremendous pain and suffering. We encourage you to search your heart, and take action now to make a meaningful difference in their lives.
