Ted Sisk
Ted Sisk, former Kentucky Baptist Convention president and pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington for 25 years, died on April 18. He was 89.
Sisk, a graduate of Piedmont College and Southern Seminary, was active in Kentucky Baptist and Southern Baptist life throughout his ministry as well as in his community.
He served as moderator for Elkhorn Baptist Association and on the Kentucky Baptist Convention’s committee for constitutional bylaws.
In addition to pastoring at Immanuel, where the church’s chapel is named in his honor, he was pastor of Anchor Baptist Church in Lexington and churches in Georgia and West Virginia.
After his retirement in 1995, he served as the interim pastor of Lawrenceburg First Baptist, Carlisle First Baptist, and Winchester First Baptist churches before returning to Immanuel.
“It is with heavy hearts for our loss, but great rejoicing in his gain that we tell the church our beloved Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Ted Sisk, passed away this morning,” Ron Edmondson, current pastor at Immanuel, said in a post on the church’s Facebook page.
He challenged the church, “Please pause and say a word of prayer in honor of brother Ted and in support of his family.”
Edmondson told the Herald-Lexington Leader that “Sisk’s legacy looms large” at Immanuel. Even after retirement, “he was still very much a part of the church.” (WR)
