What comes to mind when you think of “God doing a new thing?” As a teen in the 90s, I can say that the first thing that comes to mind is the DC Talk song entitled Nu Thang. While rap may not be your first choice in music, take a moment to read this verse from the song: “My God is doin’ a brand nu thang. But, since time began, He remains the same. Faithful, forever to His word. And Solid, a cornerstone unstirred.” The words in this verse tell of the character of God.

As Christians, no matter our situation, God’s word shows us that He is solid, faithful and unstirred by the circumstances of our lives. When life gets difficult, God reminds us that He will prepare a way through the desert, but we must be willing to let go of the past to move forward (Isaiah 43: 18-19). Even today, God is still in the business of doing something new in and through His people.

This summer, Kentucky Changers, a student construction missions opportunity of Kentucky WMU, sent 424 middle and high schoolers from 40 Kentucky and Ohio Baptist churches to Russellville, Somerset and Shelbyville to share the hope of Christ through hard work and dedication.
Whether it was through a new deck, repaired siding or a new roof, these homeowners had the opportunity to see God’s faithfulness and provision.
“I can’t believe they would take the time to spend their summer working on my house. I can’t thank them enough. God is so good,” said a homeowner from the Russellville project. This homeowner lived with a tarp over her roof for one year before Changers came to town. She was given a visual picture of God’s goodness in removing the old and beginning anew.

As an organization, our cry is for the Lord to fall afresh on us. We have experienced a year of transition and loss. Like the homeowners during Kentucky Changers, we await God’s restorative touch and put our trust in His promises. God is doing a new thing, and all we have to do is be obedient to His call.
Despite the loss of our beloved leader, Peggy Murphy, Kentucky Changers will continue to bring hope and restoration to families in need. Kentucky WMU is grateful for the faithful leadership Peggy gave to Changers, and for the team she assembled along the way. We are blessed to work with seasoned leaders who have stepped up to lead the way. God is at work, and we look forward to many more years of service through Kentucky Changers.
