Louisville—Members of Highview Baptist Church voted to call Aaron Harvie as senior pastor on June 26.
Harvie, who has been interim lead pastor at the church’s East Campus since October 2015, will begin his duties July 11. He succeeds Les Hughes, whose resigned last June.
“I was faithfully serving the church with my family, teaching on Wednesday nights starting in the fall. It was in October that God led me to pray to Him about my role at Highview,” said Harvie of how he became involved at Highview, “That afternoon (interim) pastor Randy (Overstreet) texted me to see if I would be interested in an interim teaching position at East Campus. I knew this was from God and I immediately jumped in!”
Harvie has a wealth of experience in church planting. After serving as senior pastor at Long Ridge Baptist Church in Owenton, he—with the support of the North American Mission Board—planted Riverside Community Church in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1999. That church not only has grown significantly but also has planted multiplied four other churches in the area.
Harvie returned to Louisville in 2012, where he previously had attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, to train and develop church planters through a NAMB-supported teaching position at SBTS. He assumed his role as interim East Campus lead pastor last fall.
“(Harvie) is exactly the right man, at the right time, at the right church,” said Al Mohler, president of Southern Seminary, “I’ve known Aaron for many years. I know him as a husband, as a father and as a leader.” (WR)
