SHELBYVILLE—First Baptist Church of Shelbyville hosted weekend events honoring area first responders Sept. 7-9.
On Friday evening, the church invited the community to meet their first responders, as members put a 200-lb. hog on the BBQ pit. They also smoked an additional 164 lbs. of pork butts. First responders participated in a corn hole tournament and hundreds of hot dogs, brats and bags of popcorn were given away.
On Saturday, first responders were invited to bring their families to the church campus for a BBQ lunch.The group paused to remember the fallen with a special table in the gym in commemoration. Shelbyville First gave away more than $3,000 in door prizes, and members served 192 people.
On Sunday, the church prayed over the first responders and their families.
This was the church’s fourth year to host the event, noted Senior Pastor Maurice Hollingsworth. (WR)
