New student Terry Burtchell was committed to doing whatever it took to get his family to Clear Creek, all the way from Troy, Texas.
“I received Christ as my Savior when I was 12 and God called me to the ministry when I was 17,” said Burtchell. “After graduating high school my church sent me to Bible college in Missouri. I was young and afraid and I came home a few months later. I didn’t return to school or the ministry. I always felt I had let God down and was unworthy.”
“For years I fought the urge to return to ministry and tried to find happiness in my work,” said Burtchell. “One day my wife Brandy said, “You haven’t found what you’re looking for in any job. Maybe you should stop searching and do what God called you to do a long time ago.” I agreed and we started looking for Christian colleges. Brandy came across Clear Creek, and it was everything we were looking for even with family housing. I didn’t even know family housing existed.”
“I talked to the admissions office and started the process to get accepted as a student. When we received our acceptance letters, we began planning a campus visit. The finances we were planning on using for the trip fell through, and we thought we were going to have to cancel the trip. We prayed about it and told God we were committed and would move the 1,029 miles sight unseen if that’s what He was asking us to do. Two days later the finances we needed for the trip came through.”
“Our visit to Clear Creek was even better than we had expected,” said Burtchell. “After returning home we put our house on the market. We received an offer, accepted it, and were under contract within six hours of listing our home. Our move went very smoothly, although it was hard and a little scary when we had everything we own in the moving truck and were saying good bye to our family. Once we arrived at Clear Creek all our fears were washed away, and we both knew this is exactly where God wants us. Living on campus is a wonderful experience. I know it is temporary but I’ve never felt more at home. The Clear Creek community is amazing.”
