When Robert arrived at Sunrise, he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and persistent depression, consequences of a horrific childhood. When gang violence claimed his brother’s life, there was nowhere to turn for love and support. Robert’s stepfather physically and emotionally abused him, and he was sexually abused by a family acquaintance.

As we look to a new year of serving abused and neglected children, this appalling story serves as a powerful reminder that our mission is to restore hope. That’s why we advocate for children whose lives are a tortuous, brutal ordeal. It’s why we strive to reunite estranged children with their families, or find loving homes where they can sleep at night secure in the knowledge that someone cares.

Every day, our therapists and counselors see the devastating effect of emotional torment and desolation on our young clients. Our staff also witnesses the healing power of Christ’s love every day.

For Sunrise, it’s about shining the light of God’s grace in dark places, where children live in fear. It’s about saving lives. But we cannot succeed in this important ministry without help from our supporters, and everyone who has a stake in the future of our children.
