PIKEVILLE—Jeremy Atwood, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Glasgow, was elected by acclamation as first vice president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention at the organization’s annual meeting in Pikeville Nov. 13.

In nominating Atwood, Norm Brock, pastor of First Baptist Church of East Bernstadt, described him as “a committed, compassionate church leader who understands Kentucky Baptists”.

Brock also noted that Atwood has a history of leading churches to increase their giving and commitment to the Cooperative Program. His current church gave nearly 14 percent of its undesignated receipts through the Cooperative Program last year.

“He also has over five years of experience working with children and families in Kentucky’s foster care system,” Brock said. “As adoptive parents, he and Cara continue to advocate for and minister to foster children and children with special needs.”

Atwood has a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and history from Western Kentucky University and a master’s in theological studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently working on his Master of Divinity degree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Serving in the role would allow him to give back to Kentucky Baptists who have invested so much in him, Atwood said. “God has used Kentucky Baptists to make me the pastor, preacher, and leader I am today,” he said. “For all that I have received, I’d like to give back and serve in any capacity that I can.”
