Sunrise’s yearly Food Round Up program helps supplement meals for our young men and women currently living at our six therapeutic residential treatment centers. It is no small task to cover the cost of feeding more than 100 youth each day. Sunrise provides these young people with three meals and two snacks a day, but the federal government’s school nutrition program reimburses only a portion of the meal costs for breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.

Sunrise’s Food Round Up donation drive used to help provide canned goods to supplement food for those living at our residential treatment centers, but the inefficiencies of transporting them and managing expiration dates proved to be a challenge. Today, Sunrise asks its supporters to donate gift cards that will be specifically designated for food purchases to be used by our residential treatment centers to feed the boys and girls living there.
So, we are asking that you donate gift cards to Sunrise Children’s Services today! Walmart and Kroger are our preferred food retailers, but gift cards from other grocery chains like Meijer, IGA, and Food Lion are graciously accepted. Currently, we are in need of $300 to $500 in gift cards for each of our residential centers each month.
“Gift cards from our donors help supplement meals that are non-reimbursable from the government program, which is dinner each evening, a nighttime snack before bed, and comfort food for special occasions such as birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas,” said Penny Beighey, Sunrise’s food services director.
To make a tax-deductible gift card donation to Sunrise’s Food Round Up program, please mail cards to the following address:

Gift cards may also be dropped off Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at any of our Sunrise offices across the state. (Please be sure to mark your donation “Food Round Up”).
