SHEPHERDSVILLE—As the flood waters receded and people returned home, Kentucky Baptists mobilized to provide meals and help clean up the mess.
Disaster relief volunteers with Kentucky Baptist Convention anticipated preparing tens of thousands of meals. Crews arrived in Shepherdsville on Wednesday, Feb. 28, to set up a mobile kitchen.

The American Red Cross requested 28,000 meals for distribution over the weekend, and Kentucky Baptist volunteers prepared them.
KBC Disaster Relief Director Coy Webb said the mobile kitchen was set up in the parking lot of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shepherdsville. Webb said he expects many of the meals will be handed out to residents along the Salt River.
“It’s been one of the worst floods in years,” Webb said.
Webb said disaster relief assessors will be working in West Point, where about 75 homes, a quarter of all dwellings in the area, were damaged by flooding along the Ohio River.
“Water reached 7 to 10 feet in homes,” Webb said, “and for some, this is their third time being flooded.”

Webb said disaster relief crews were in the area by the weekend helping residents mitigate flood damage.
KBC sent 5-gallon buckets filled with bleach, sponges and other supplies that can be used for clean-up and mold remediation. The 60 “flood buckets” were available at West Point Baptist Church until supplies ran out. (KBC)
