WHEREAS, Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger was a strong believer in eugenics, and
WHEREAS, Planned Parenthood is well known as an organization that has aborted millions of unborn babies and is a vocal advocate for abortions, and
WHEREAS, approximately one of every four abortions performed in America are carried out at a Planned Parenthood facility including more than 300,000 abortions in the last reported year, and 995,787 abortions in the last three reported years, and
WHEREAS, pro-life activists, posing as private purchasers of fetal organs, recorded heart-rending video that showed Planned Parenthood officials talking about the selling of body parts from aborted babies for scientific research, and
WHEREAS, these videos truly shocked the consciences of Bible-believing Christians everywhere, and
WHEREAS, the videos generated news coverage around the world that cast the United States in an unfavorable light and propagated an image of Americans as a barbaric people, and
WHEREAS, the head of Planned Parenthood has shamelessly defended the organization’s actions, and has offered not even a hint of remorse or apology, and
WHEREAS, tax documents raise legitimate questions about the need for public funding to Planned Parenthood, considering the organization spends millions of dollars on political activities, travel and exorbitant salaries, including $590,000 a year to the organization’s president, Cecile Richards, and
WHEREAS, Planned Parenthood gets about a third of its $1.3 billion annual budget from federal payments, mostly reimbursements for treating low-income Medicaid patients, and
WHEREAS, pro-life congressional lawmakers tried unsuccessfully earlier this year to pass a measure to allow states to stop reimbursing abortion providers with Medicaid, which is jointly funded with federal and state money, and
WHEREAS, congressional committees continue to work on legislation that would cut most of the federal money going to Planned Parenthood, and
WHEREAS, women in America have other options in seeking primary care, contraception, STI testing, and cancer screening outside of Planned Parenthood, including tens of thousands of doctors and hospitals, including 1,048 federally qualified health centers in the United States which provide women cancer screenings, contraception, and STI testing, and
THEREFORE BE RESOLVED that messengers to the 2015 annual meeting of the Kentucky Baptist Convention call for an end to any and all public funding for Planned Parenthood, and
THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that messengers to the 2015 annual meeting condemn the actions of Planned Parenthood in the senseless killing of unborn babies and in the selling of body parts from those babies.
