Raymond Ward, 91, of Morgantown, died May 6 at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green.
A native of Butler County, Ward served as pastor of churches in Butler, Muhlenburg, Logan, Barren, Warren, Daviess and Ohio counties. His longest pastorate was Rineyville Church, where he served from 1969-1989. In 2006, Rineyville honored him by bestowing the title of pastor emeritus.
After retiring, Ward continued to serve in 23 interim positions in churches throughout Severn Valley Association. His last interim position, completed on April 19 of this year, was director of missions for Blackford-Breckenridge Baptist Association.
A graduate of Western Kentucky University, he attended Campbellsville College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also served in several leadership capacities with the Kentucky Baptist Convention and was a recipient of the C. Ford Duschner award for support of the Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children (now Sunrise Children’s Services).
Ward was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Justine Flener Ward, who passed away in 2001. He is survived by a daughter Sarah Margaret Ward, of Morgantown; a son, Samuel Thomas Ward, of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
