Most of you have probably heard the big news coming in January for Western Recorder. Just in case you missed it: We are moving to an every-other-week schedule in 2015.
We are grateful for the many churches who understand the importance of providing the state Baptist newspaper for all of their active families, and for those who partner with us by publishing their newsletters on the Western Recorder’s back pages. We know churches face tight times, too, and rather than raising subscription prices significantly, we trust they will understand and be willing to move to this new publishing schedule with us.
The decision to go biweekly is primarily due to rising costs for printing and postage and to recent reductions in Cooperative Program allocations for KBC agencies and ministries. We regret that the move has become necessary, but we believe this is the right decision from an economic standpoint, and it reflects better stewardship of our CP resources.
To supplement the every-other-week schedule, we have upgraded our WR website, which will carry more Kentucky Baptist news and provide a true e-edition that features hotlinks and customized church newsletters. Technology allows the website to recognize readers and then automatically tailors their e-edition to include their church’s newsletter. Check it out at www.westernrecorder.org!
Despite publishing less frequently, our desire is to make more Kentucky Baptist news available more quickly. We anticipate most biweekly issues will consist of 16 to 20 pages, as compared to the current 12-page format. They also will contain more color photos and Kentucky Baptist content. The enhancements should make for a more appealing, more effective publication.
Our next issue will be dated Jan. 13. Merry Christmas! See you in 2015!
